He was born in 1934 in Riva del Garda (Italy). He received his training in architecture and choreography in Geneva and Zurich.

He has been working as a freelance painter and sculptor since 1962. He lives and works in Zurich and Tuscany.

Donati's work reflects his original engagement with dance and choreography: the artist's central and recurring theme is the human body.

His most important and direct means of expression is drawing. It also finds its way into paintings and collages. Artistically, Donati is very versatile and works with a wide variety of materials: oil painting, watercolor, jute, collage, relief, sculpture, church windows.

On the occasion of his 90th birthday, the gallery in Sanapark Birmensdorf offered him an anniversary vernissage on April 24, 2024, in which the artist was able to present his latest works to the public.
