Here?s a rare opportunity to buy a high quality replica Theremin Cello, built by master craftsman Floyd Engels.
The theremin cello, designed by Leon Theremin who was originally a cellist himself, first appeared in 1932.
Only about 10 of these theremin cellos were built by Mr. Engels around 2004 after he carefully studied every component on the original. They are hand crafted to be nearly identical to the original. It appears that only two known historical samples are kept in collections today, neither of which play.
Instead of the Cello's strings, the Theremin-Cello has a flexible black plastic film fingerboard which produces a tone for as long as the finger is depressed, the pitch is defined by the position on the fingerboard and the volume is controlled by a lever. The timbre of the sound is controlled by two rotary knobs built onto the Cello's body.
The Theremin Cello is the no. 5, build in 2004, comes as delivered as from Mr. Floyd Engels, Cellobody in a TKL case, Cabinet with a set of spare tubes, and with a 220v-110v converter if needed.
The instrument was used throughout the 1930's by a number of musicians most notably Leopold Stowkowski who commissioned Theremin to design and build a bass Theremin Cello which was later abandoned due to the side effects caused by subharmonic frequencies on the orchestra's string section.

Hier bietet sich die seltene Gelegenheit, ein hochwertiges Replikat eines Theremin-Cellos zu kaufen, das von Meisterhandwerker Floyd Engels gebaut wurde.
Das Theremin-Cello, entworfen von Leon Theremin, der ursprünglich selbst Cellist war, erschien erstmals 1932.
Nur etwa 10 dieser Theremin-Cellos wurden von Floyd Engels um 2004 herum gebaut, nachdem er jedes Bauteil des Originals sorgfältig untersucht hatte. Sie wurden in Handarbeit gefertigt und sind nahezu identisch mit dem Original. Nur zwei bekannte historische originale Exemplare werden heute in Sammlungen aufbewahrt werden, von denen keines gespielt wird.
Anstelle der Cello-Saiten verfügt das Theremin-Cello über ein flexibles Griffbrett aus schwarzer Kunststofffolie, das einen Ton erzeugt, solange der Finger gedrückt wird; die Tonhöhe wird durch die Position auf dem Griffbrett bestimmt und die Lautstärke durch einen Hebel geregelt. Die Klangfarbe wird über zwei Drehknöpfe am Cellokorpus eingestellt.
