Why this build
Pinion P1.18 gearbox (636% range). Sealed magnesium housing at the bottom bracket: no derailleur, no hanger, no cassette. Shifts the whole range while stationary - useful when you stall on a loaded switchback. One oil change a year, and that's the maintenance. Weight sits low and central, which matters more on a small frame than on a big one.
Gates Carbon Drive belt. Silent, clean, no lube. Doesn't care about mud, sand or river crossings.
SON dynamo hub + Cinq Plug5 plus charger + buffer battery. Power out of the front wheel. The Plug5 sits in the steerer and puts a USB port on the stem cap: phone, GPS, headlamp, lights. The SON hub is durable, sealed and serviceable, with very little drag.
RockShox Revelation 120mm. A real suspension fork, not a random gravel thingie.
Race Face Aeffect R dropper post. Drop it and the Outback descends like a hardtail; up, it pedals like a touring bike.
Ryde Edge M 30 27.5" wheels. Tires you can find anywhere from Kyrgyzstan to Peru. No toe overlap, low standover, quicker handling, strong wheel.
Fresh tubeless, fast-rolling. Vittoria Mezcal 2,4. Quick on tarmac and hardpack, grippy in dirt. Fresh sealant, ready to ride.
