Backstory:
In the early 1970s, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training reached the emergency response communities through the training doll, Resusci-Anne.
Almost every training session began with the words: "Annie... Annie...Are you okay?"
The Resusci-Anne manikin is a model which accurately simulates the human respiratory system for training purposes - to provide CPR, known as mouth-to-mouth, in emergency situations.
Anne's face is reputedly based on a drowned woman pulled from the River Seine in Paris in the late 1880s.
The mortician was apparently so moved by her serene features he had a death mask made of her face.
The first Resusci-Anne was developed by Asmund Laerdal, a successful toy maker, and Bjorn Lind, an anaesthesiologist.
Resusci-Annie debuted in September 1960 in Stavanger, Norway at the First International Symposium on Resuscitation.
